AI writing tools are all the rage now. More and more businesses are turning to AI-powered tools to generate content quickly and efficiently.
While AI tools can be great for generating bulk content, can they match the creativity and nuances of traditional website copywriting?
In this article, we’ll compare some of the most popular AI writing tools and see how they measure up in generating website copy.
First up, let’s build our base.
Before we go into the comparison, let’s establish a few details which we’ll use as the input for the AI writing tools.
The copy we are generating is for our hypothetical brand – UpArtsy.
UpArtsy creates and sells handmade decor items from upcycled paper. Its target audience is primarily environment enthusiasts or people who care about the environment.
Each UpArtsy piece is unique and can be described as follows in terms of features and benefits:
- Handmade and customized decor items
- Created from upcycled paper
- Unique designs
- Sustainable and eco-friendly
- Great for adding a personal touch to your space
- Helps save the environment
- Makes for memorable gifts
Now, we’ll generate the website copy for our brand from scratch.
Our main focus will be on the copy for the website’s hero section. And we’ll also explore how else we can use these copywriting tools to enrich our website.
Let’s dive right in!
1. Copy.ai
Copy.ai is the AI copywriter focused on generating marketing copy. It has over 90 tools and templates for content production. Along with speed, it promises high-converting and engaging content.
Coming to website copy generation, it offers website-specific tools such as Landing Page Hero Text, Subheaders, CTA, and so on, which you can combine to write the elements.
For the UpArtsy website, I used the abovementioned tools to generate the hero text, the subheader, and a CTA.
Here’s what my input looks like. Further, I chose a witty tone for my content.
Output

I also gave a go at the Product Description tool for some additional content.
The Verdict
Overall, I didn’t find the Copy.ai outputs creative and impactful enough. Some of these even feel erratic and out of context.
If I had to pick a hero text, subheader, and CTA each, none seem to tie together well to form a meaningful and informative section. It is likely a result of the generation of each type of copy separately.
Moreover, I didn’t find most copies living up to the witty tone. At best, it is basic.
Generating more copies may give better results. These outputs can be helpful if you’re hit by writer’s block or need some starting point.
2. Rytr
Rytr is another powerful AI writing assistant that helps you create high-quality and high-converting content.
It offers over 40 use cases and templates and promises minimal editing. In addition, it has a robust workflow, allowing you to manage everything from SEO to grammar in one place.
Unlike Copy.ai, it lets you write multiple sections of a website or landing page based on features under one use case.
I generated two variations, and here are the results.
Output
Variant 1
Variant 2
The Verdict
Trying Rytr right after Copy.ai, I was quite impressed with both outputs.
The best part is the comprehensiveness of the information it yielded. The copies are clear, engaging, and well-structured, from headline to feature sections.
However, the subheaders could be more concise. With a few tweaks in the generated copy and a few more pieces of information, the website copy is good to go.
3. Copymatic
Copymatic is another popular AI writing tool that lets you generate copy in seconds, from blogs to digital ads.
It offers 50+ tools, helps with SEO research, and has an in-built plagiarism checker as well.
While it has separate tools for generating website copy, such as headlines and subheaders, you can also generate an entire landing page in one go.
For UpArtsy’s website copy, I went for its landing page builder tool.
Output
The Verdict
While the tool is super useful, I find the landing page output below average. The copy is repetitive, especially the headlines of different sections.
In the features section, note “one-of-a-kind” repeating thrice. You can also see the exact same words used at various places in different combinations.
Moreover, the structure of the page looks imbalanced. The CTA button texts and CTA per se are also not so accurate, given the context in the input.
Since it is just one output, it might not be the best representation of Copymatic’s power. You might want to play around with different tools to see if they suit your needs.
4. Anyword
Next on the list of our AI writing assistants is Anyword, which generates sales-driven content.
In addition, it offers predictive performance scores for every output to help you select better. It also lets you add specific user persona to create copy tailored to the audience.
Like Copy.ai, you’ll need to generate copy using multiple landing page tools. I generated three variations each of headlines, subheaders, CTA, and benefits.
Output
Headlines
Subheaders
CTA
Benefits
The Verdict
I found Anyword’s outputs decent. The benefits section is pretty good.
However, the accuracy of the output is not perfect. For example, the headline “Turn Upcycled Paper into Beautiful Art” or the first subheader output is not aligned with the input.
Nevertheless, the performance indicator against each adds a lot of value. It can help you decide which copy to select and edit it accordingly to enhance its performance.
Similarly, adding a target audience persona can improve your copy further. Anyword is worth a try for sure.
5. Jasper
Jasper is one of the most popular AI writing tools out there, trusted by leading companies all over the globe.
It offers 50+ templates for generating quality content for various use cases.
Since I am on a free plan, website copy tools were not accessible to me. So, I used its Command tool to write copy for UpArtsy.
Command is just like ChatGPT, where you can ask the AI to generate anything you like.
I simply asked it to write website copy for UpArtsy – including the headline, subheader, benefits section, and CTA and added the background.
Output
Variant 1
Variant 2
Variant 3
The Verdict
Jasper Command’s output is by far the most impressive one for me, given it was a free-flow input, unlike the others. Thumbs up to the AI power!
While the benefits section could be shorter or formatted better, the quality of the generated copy is good. All outputs are engaging, accurate, and true to the context.
With Jasper’s reputation in the industry, I am sure it can generate some powerful website copy.
6. Writesonic
Last in our list of AI website copy generators is Writesonic – another quite popular one.
It offers 80+ AI writing tools, including tools to optimize the copy, such as paraphrasing, expander, and shortner.
Like Copymatic, its landing page tool also generates a full-fledged web page. You can also download the copy and the HTML of the generated page.
For UpArtsy, I generated three variations.
Output
Variant 1
Variant 2
Variant 3
For a complete view of each variation, check out this link to the UpArtsy landing pages output by Writesonic.
The Verdict
Unlike Copymatic, Writesonic’s landing page tool’s results are pretty good.
Overall, all three landing page copies are engaging, aligned with the input, and accurate in terms of information and context.
My only contention is the landing page structure, and some visual elements suit better for a SaaS-like product.
However, I can’t complain that I get a full-blown landing page within minutes. With a solid base, one can easily modify the structure and visuals.
So, which of the 6 AI writers is the best?
All of these 6 AI-powered copywriting tools have their share of good and bad.
Based on the inputs of our hypothetical brand UpArtsy, I found Rytr, Jasper, and Writesonic outperforming the rest in generating website copy.
The three outputs are high-quality, engaging, and accurate – both contextually and grammatically.
The rest are not bad either. They can help find inspiration or overcome writer’s block.
Each of these six tools has free plans or trial credits. I recommend exploring each to find the one that can work the best for you.
Lastly, can you rely on AI writing tools for website copy?
AI-based copy generators can quickly produce error-free website copy and quality content. However, it is important to remember that AI still has its limitations.
AI cannot capture nuances and emotions as a human writer can. It may not be good enough at reflecting your company’s unique message or brand voice as it learns from the existing content on the web.
It’s best not to rely entirely upon AI copy generators, especially to craft website copy. Treat an AI tool as your writing assistant that can expedite your process and provide inspiration.
